Selecting Web Feed allows you to enter/select URLs for downloading. iSpeak It will provide the text from the web feed. Note that HTML structures such as tables are ignored so the individual rows will simply be placed in the file one after another; you may have to do some editing to get text that's reasonable to listen to. iSpeak It supports standard web pages and RSS (and Atom) feeds. You can also choose to download podcasts from any RSS feeds that contain podcasts.
URLs can be added to the list by simply dragging and dropping them from your web browser or applications like NetNewsWire. If you've copied a URL to the clipboard iSpeak It will automatically add it to the URL list when you click on the add button. Note that if the URL is already present the new URL is ignored and the current entry is highlighted to indicate that it is present.
iSpeak It maintains a history of feed entries that have been downloaded to ensure that you only get those entries you haven't listened to yet. If you want to listen to all entries from a feed you can select the Include All Entries option.
Selecting Include Articles will cause iSpeak It to extract the text from the full article of each RSS feed entry and include it after the entry's text. If iSpeak It cannot download or process the full article then only the entry will be present. Note that this setting is ignored if iSpeak It determines that the full article is present in the feed itself. This is determined based on the number of paragraphs present in the feed text (more than 1 indicating that we already has the complete article). For Atom feeds it is assumed that the full article is always present in the feed.
Selecting Download Podcasts will cause iSpeak It to automatically download any podcasts (MP3/AAC) files attached to an RSS feed and transfer them into iTunes. Your current setting for encoder is used to determine if the file needs to be converted to your desired format (and bookmarked if AAC and you have chosen bookmarking). The podcasts' genre will also be set to your current setting to allow for consistent organization. You also have the option of selecting Latest podcast only to limit the downloading to the most recent podcast in the feed (to avoid having all previous podcasts downloaded when you add a new feed). Note that even if you only get the latest podcast the history is updated to include all podcasts available from the feed (so that you can quickly catch-up on a new podcast without having to download all previous podcast entries).
If you find you're downloading the same feeds on a regular basis you can streamline this process by by holding down the option key while selecting Web Feed from the Load menu to have iSpeak It automatically download all the feeds you last selected within the Web Feed dialog.
When you add a web page iSpeak It will automatically check for any RSS feeds in the page. If it finds any RSS (or Atom) feeds it will ask if you want to add the feed for the actual page. Note that iSpeak It will always choose an Atom feed over an RSS feed since those feeds usually contain the complete article contents in the feed itself.
